A compute unit is a reserved bundle of capacity, billed at a flat monthly rate: 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and 80 GB NVMe on Team, or 4 dedicated vCPU, 8 GB RAM and 160 GB NVMe on Business. You buy as many units as your workloads need and spread them across any services and regions you like. Team members, projects and environments are unlimited — we bill capacity, not headcount.
A Team unit works out to $6.00 per vCPU per month — exactly the metered compute rate — so reserving is never a markup on compute. It buys predictability plus the platform tier: pooled allowances across all ten services, SSO, and the SLA. Business units are $5.50 per vCPU per month, so the effective rate drops as your units get larger. Bursty workloads are usually cheaper metered; steady ones are usually cheaper reserved.
Yes. Start metered and move to reserved units (or the reverse) at any renewal — your resources and data are untouched. Many customers run metered while workloads are still moving, then reserve units once their baseline is predictable.
Nothing breaks. Anything above your reserved capacity is billed at the standard metered rates on the same invoice, and the dashboard flags when adding a unit would be cheaper than the overage. You can add or remove units at any time — billing prorates to the day.
